Our Tree Care Services

We can offer our clients a full range of specialist tree surgery services that we carry out in accordance with the code of practice of the Arboricultural Association and British standard for tree works BS3998

The pruning of trees is a complex operation that our experienced arborists can carry out, when we are contacted by a customer we firstly book a visit to discuss the needs of the client and survey the tree to determine what would be the best course of action to take. some of these techniques are described below.

Tree felling

Felling is only undertaken as a last resort or necessity. There are a variety of techniques used to fell a tree. The simplest is a straight fell this is usually only suitable on sites that are large and where damage to the ground is not of concern. In the majority of gardens and sites, we dismantle trees with a technique known as sectional felling, this is where the tree is climbed by an experienced arborist equipped with a work positioning harness, ropes, spikes and a variety of different size chainsaws.

Then limbs are rigged up with ropes and pulleys and cut with a chainsaw then lowered in a controlled manner gently to the ground with no damage to anything below. Then the limbs are processed by our ground crew into a manageable size to be taken to our powerful woodchipper and chipped straight onto the back of our tipper truck ready to be taken to the recycling depot, logs are generally left till last and are also removed to be recycled. As part of our green planet policy, we replant three trees for every one felled with the help of the More Trees project and our progress can be tracked using the button below.

Tree Pruning Techniques

Crown Reduction

This is a process of reducing the overall size of the crown of a tree, usually to allow more light into the area around the tree or to reduce the spread of the crown towards properties. All trees respond differently to reduction therefore careful consideration and planning are needed when carrying out this type of work.

Height reduction

Usually called topping or lopping by customers. This technique is used to simply reduce the height of a tree that has grown too high for a client’s garden, it is a complex technique that involves planning and complicated rigging when lowering branches that have been cut so as not to cause unnecessary damage to the remaining tree underneath.

Crown thinning & Raising

These techniques are used when reduction is not suitable. thinning involves the removal of some branches throughout the crown to enable more light through and this also enables the wind to pass easier providing some protection from high winds. Crown raising is when we evenly remove the lower limbs of a tree raising the lower level of the crown which in turn allows light underneath.

hedge cutting, trimming & removal

Here at Adapt Arb we offer a comprehensive hedge-cutting and trimming service. We trim all species of hedges no matter how small or large. We can give a hedge a one-off trim and shape so a customer can then handle the care themselves or we can offer a regular trim service at whatever intervals suit the hedge species and the client. We are often called in to reduce overgrown hedges that have grown too tall or wide for our clients to manage themselves. We can cater for any size of hedge to be trimmed or reduced.

hedge removal

Sometimes hedges have just served their purpose and a client will want it removed for any number of reasons for example it is taking too much room up in the garden, grown past its best, having their garden freshly landscaped, to replant with another species or even to have a new fence erected.

This is something that we regularly undertake. We can replant a new hedge and we also have experienced staff that can erect a new fence for you.

Stump Grinding

We offer a service for removing unsightly tree stumps from felled trees. This involves using specialist machinery that grinds the stump out below ground level, then the area left can be landscaped over as if there was never a tree there in first place. The grinders we use come in a variety of sizes from small but powerful that can fit through an average back gate and can be picked up by two men to manoeuvre into position and large machines that move on tracks and are transported to and from site on a trailer, these large grinders are mainly used on very large stumps in gardens with wide access points and on site clearance where there are a number of stumps to be removed. Waste produced from grinding is used to fill the hole where the stump was and any excess is removed and recycled

Site Clearance & commercial contracts

We have experience in the clearance of sites in preparation for building work from small plots for a single house to large developments for housing estates or supermarkets. Our site clearance staff are all holders of CSCS cards and are trained and qualified to operate any machinery needed. During site clearance operations we can remove all vegetation from brambles and weeds right up to the largest of trees, waste can be removed to be recycled or chipped on-site to be used for landscaping

Emergency Storm Damage

We at Adapt Arb offer 24-hour emergency service during and after storms and periods of high winds. At these times, emergency work takes priority over any pre-booked jobs. Our aim for any emergencies is to attend as fast as possible and then make safe any damaged trees. During these periods we can have multiple callouts so we usually first make safe, remove trees from buildings, and clear entrances as a priority. We then return later to chip and remove logs. In an emergency please call 07769 214 615 this number is answered 24 hours a day during storms and periods of high winds only.

Seasoned Hardwood & Milled Timber

Our seasoned logs are produced by us from the trees we cut down. They are chopped to the perfect size for log burners and seasoned in the open air to below 15% moisture content ready for burning in your stove. We sell them by the crate and have a free delivery service.

Timber milling and live edge slab sales when high value large timber is felled like oak, we produce slabs and blocks, usually on-site by a process known as milling these are then seasoned ready for use by craftsmen and D.I.Y enthusiasts for use as tabletops, benches, shelves etc.
